Mischievous Maddie

Not much has been going on in the LoSurdo household of late. Life consists of working, coming home to play with Addison, dinner and bed. It is pretty mundane and routine. However last night was a little out of the norm.

Most of you who know Joey and I have met our dog...or let me rephrase that-you have been attacked by her at the door. Maddie is a very friendly, sweet dog who mainly sleeps around the house most of the time (Again, if you have ever come to our house before you find this hard to believe due to Maddie's psychotic greetings). She is Joey's constant companion and literally follows him around the house when he's home, and she sleeps with us every night. A few days ago, Joey and I randomly talked about what we would do without Maddie since she is such a huge part of our lives. Last night, we were scared we might have to find out. Maddie being the well behaved dog she is not, decided she really wanted some of my yummy chocolate cake last night. I thought I had pushed it far enough back on the counter to avoid doggie temptation, but she put her front paws up there and dug in. She ended up eating half of the cake!! Chocolate can be very toxic to dogs so when we called the emergency vet hospital and they heard how much she had ingested they had us rush down there. They promptly induced vomiting and pumped her stomach. The vet said she would be okay, but we had a rough night. We hoped that Maddie would learn her lesson...

However, she got herself in trouble again this morning. As I was running out the door late for work...Maddie slipped by me and ran out the door. For most well trained dogs this is no problem, but Maddie is an obedience school dropout and in the fall when we took her to obedience classes we decided she didn't need them (I blame it on my pregnant hormonal state of mind!) Anyway, once Maddie leaves our house she bolts for freedom and it pretty much takes an act of God to get her back. So here I am running down the street after her... calling her name, trying to lure her to my car or random neighbors houses. Most of them have seen this ritual before and just laugh. I finally caught her and drug her back home (literally)-halfway there she sat down and went limp and decided to thwart my efforts (I call this pulling a "Sydney"... a move perfected by my brother and sister-in-laws dog) I ended up basically dragging her home and being late for my field trip at school. What a day! Incidently tonight we will be deviating from the "norm" to get a shock collar.

Hey..you guys can write your very own version of "Marley and Me". It can be called "Maddie and Me". These stories sound like they are straight out of the pages of that book!

Oh my gosh, that is so funny..I am happy that Maddie is OK.....I second what Hayley said....right out of the pages of Marley and Me. At least she keeps life interesting.
